Abstract

In the Hobbesian state of nature the metaphor of men having grown fungorum more removes form sight the generative power of the mother and the human condition of dependence. Identifying an alternative to this phantasmatic imaginary is one aim of Judith Butler. Studies on the real life of fungi facilitate the task of building a different imaginary, centering on the issue of interdependence among humans and between human and non-human. The article questions the limits of a political thought that turns the biological fact of interdependence into a value.
