Submission, review, publication

Pandemos. Rivista di scienze umane, politiche e sociali does not charge any article submission, article processing, or publication-related fees to Authors.

Submissions – from established as well as emerging scholars, preferably interested in encounter and exchange with other disciplines and other methodologies of the humanities and political and social sciences – must be made via the OJS platform at UNICApress – following registration –, in either Italian, English, French or Spanish.

The Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board shall, within 15 days upon receipt, verify any such submission meets the scientific standards and the scopes and themes of Pandemos, and communicate the outcome to the submitting Author.

If felt to be suitable for publication, submissions for section 1 «Focus» (full researched articles on a specific topic to be chosen from time to time by Pandemos, maximum length 70.000 characters with notes and spaces, minimum 15.000), and submissions for section 2 «Researches and studies» (full researched articles on any topic included in the journal’s agenda, maximum length 70.000 characters with notes and spaces, minimum 15.000), are moved into the review process by two double-blind Reviewers (at least one external to the Scientific Board), who are appointed by the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board for their expertise, experience and reliability. This second stage shall be completed – via the same OJS platform at UNICApress – within a period no longer than 5 weeks, at the expiration of which the final outcome (published with no or minor changes; published with the following comments that should be addressed; needs to be revised and resubmitted; rejected) is communicated by the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board to the submitting Author. Please check the «Author guidelines» in the main menu under the item «Submissions».

If felt to be suitable for publication, submissions for section 3 «Interventions» (shorter researched articles on any topic included in the journal’s agenda, maximum length 15.000 characters with notes and spaces, minimum 6.000), and submissions for section 4 «Reviews» (reviews of books that can be of interest to the humanist and the political and social scientist, maximum length 6.000 characters with notes and spaces, minimum 2.000), are published with no external review. Please check the «Author guidelines» in the main menu under the item «Submissions».

Pandemos also includes a section 5 «Lab», devoted to young graduates who, approaching research for the first time, aim to submit one project they wish to develop in the humanities and political and social sciences. The proposal is chosen and approved by the Editor-in-Chief and the Editorial Board, following recommendation from two qualified scholars (at least one external to the Scientific Board).

Pandemos concluded with a Section 6 «In press», for works or parts of works accepted by prestigious scholarly venues and presented here in preview.

Submissions accepted are published on a “publish-as-you-go” basis, by order of acceptance, in the running volume, which opens on January 1, and closes on December 31.

When submitting a work, the following terms and conditions are accepted, even if only implicitly:

  • Authors retain their copyright on their work, and grant first publication rights to Pandemos: published works are licensed under Creative Commons. Attribution – No Derivatives 4.0 International (CC BY-ND 4.0), which allows third parties to copy, share, redistribute in any medium or format, display, implement and perform without permission, provided that appropriate credit is given to the Author and original publication in Pandemos.
  • Authors may adhere to other non-exclusive license agreements for the distribution of the work published (for instance they may deposit the work in an institutional depository, or include it in future derivative works of their own), provided they acknowledge they first published in Pandemos.
  • Authors may post their work online (international repositories, personal websites, etc.), prior to and during the submission and revision process, as this can have positive effects on research in general, and it can also help increasing the number of quotations of the work published (see The Effect of Open Access).

Pandemos reserves the right to re-publish all works published, whether in parts or in their entirety, whether as articles as or monographs, whether in print or in digital editions.
