Code of ethics
Pandemos. Rivista di scienze umane, politiche e sociali follows the «Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors» championed by COPE - Committee on Publication Ethics.
In particular:
1. DUTIES OF EDITORS
Publication decisions
The responsibility in the decision whether to accept a submission for publication ultimately rests with the Editor-in-Chief and the Board of Editors, who perform such task under qualified advice from independent Reviewers. The Editor-in-Chief and the Board of Editors operate in the interest of the journal for the purpose of preserving quality and introducing any possible improvement. Pandemos ensures that any submission from the Editor-in-Chief or from a member of the Board of Editors shall undergo the same double-blind peer-reviewing process.
Fair play
The Editor-in-Chief and the Editors accept submissions for their assessed value, regardless of the race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, nationality, religious affiliation, political persuasion of the submitting Author.
Confidentiality
The Editor-in-Chief and the Editors must not to reveal any information to anyone other than the submitting Author, the chosen Reviewers and other members of the Editorial board.
Mistakes in publications
The Editor-in-Chief and the Editors have a duty to publish corrections, clarifications, retractions and apologies when errors, mistakes and misdeeds are found.
Competing interests
The Editor-in-Chief and the Editors must not to use the contents of a submitted work in a work of their own without the written consent of the submitting Author.
2. DUTIES OF REVIEWERS
Scope of review
Double-blind peer-review is a worthy process that helps Editors in their decision whether to accept a submission for publication, while aiding Authors in their effort at improving their submitted work.
Objectivity
Reviews must be performed objectively. Reviewers are required to motivate their assessment in detail, by using a standardized form supplied by the Editors.
Deadlines
Reviewers who feel unqualified for the task assigned to them, or know they cannot complete such task within the allotted time, must notify the Editors promptly.
Confidentiality
Works recevied for review must be treated as confidential: any such work must not be shown or discussed with third parties unless authorized by the Editors. All sensible information obtained in the performance of an assigned review must be treated as confidential, and must not be used for personal purposes.
Competing interests
Reviewers are required to decline reviewing any work for which they may have a conflict of interest.
3. DUTIES OF AUTHORS
Originality and plagiarism
Authors must submit original and unpublished studies, present their work accurately, consult with the Editors when necessary. Authors must provide correct information for all the sources mentioned. Fraudulent or deliberately inaccurate statements are unethical and therefore unacceptable.
Multiple, Redundant or Concurrent Publication
Authors should not submit works already published or under consideration for publication elsewhere. Submitting the same paper to more than one journal is unethical and therefore unacceptable.
Copyright
Authors ensure their submissions – with all texts, images, tables, multimedia documents of any kind therein contained – do not infringe the copyright of others, and release the Editors from all such responsibilities. Authors ensure no content is defamatory or otherwise affecting an individual’s right, either moral or economic.
Authorship
Authorship must be attributed fairly, therefore all those who have contributed substantially to the identification, formulation and implementation of the research behind the work submitted, should be listed as co-authors. If any other person has participated at any stage, to a significant extent, such contribution should be acknowledeged explicitly. In case of co-authoring, the submitting Author must declare that the names of all the co-authors have been included, that all have approved the final version of the work submitted and agreed to its submission for publication in Pandemos.
Mistakes in publications
If an Author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in a work once published, he must notify the Editors immediately, and provide all information needed for correction.
