Investigation of a citizen above suspicion. The Mayor Renato Accorinti as a performer
Abstract
Performance Studies, from the perspective of Schechner’s theory, are applied in this paper in order to analyze some typical devices of political antagonistic forces that, in recent times, have taken positions of power. Aiming at this goal, the research explores the behavior of Messina’s Mayor, Renato Accorinti. Before his election (June 24, 2013), he has become a strong symbol of the struggle against the construction of Messina’s Bridge, one of the most debated project in the recent Italian history. This kind of actions marks clearly the whole life of the Mayor, which is often outside the institutional rules, and can be interpreted in terms of an original performative attitude.Downloads
