The Telling Hands of Gaspara Stampa. Felicita Sartori’s Engraving in the Frontispiece of the II Edition of the «Rime»
Abstract
The title is inspired by the expression «telling hands» by Max Jacob Friedlander, addressed to the communicative value assumed by the hand in the course of artistic History, not only as an operating organ but as a representation. The itinerary focuses on the Gaspara Stampa’s hands, as shown by Felicita Sartori in the re-edition of the Rime made in 1738. The speech poses on impression that the design reveals handed down from sixteenth century and, at the same time, from some figures of classical civilization.
