Marjane Satrapi’s Poulet aux Prunes: fetish, desire, and illusions
Abstract
The paper aims to identify and describe the erotic and sentimental nuances of Poulet aux prunes directed by Marjane Satrapi, wich is an interesting adaptation of the homonymous graphic novel. The story is made by ellipses, flashforward and flashback, resulting in a labyrinth-plot such as an arabesque. The dynamics of seduction, described by the complex style of Satrapi-Paronnaud, are analyzed by the fetish’s categories identified by Massimo Fusillo, that offer very interesting patterns of interaction between desire and creativity. The goal of this analysis adds a small contribution to the debate on the interference between objects, impulses and looks in contemporary cinema.
