The MUACC University Museum of Arts and Cultures Contemporary in Cagliari
Abstract
University museums constitute a historical and artistic heritage of great importance, not only from a museological point of view, but also from a historical point of view, as they write a significant part of the history of the university that guards them. Over the years, the university museum has evolved from being a collection for academic and research use to being an institution that can enable the university to go beyond its academic confines, becoming a promoter of cultural initiatives that can have a real social impact. In this sense, the MUACC (University Museum of Contemporary Arts and Cultures) represents a museum that is a child of this new mentality, born to be a museum able to meet the needs of research and teaching, but also to be a museum open to a wider public in order to spread knowledge and cultural and social awareness. This contribution aims to provide an overview of the museum institutions of the University of Cagliari, and then focus on the MUACC project and the novelties it can bring to the current panorama of university museums in Cagliari.
