Great Expectations goes to Hollywood. The rereading of a classic from Lean to Cuarón
Abstract
This essay aims at giving a reading of the adaptation of Great Expectations directed by Alfonso Cuarón in relation not only to the novel but mainly to Lean’s adaptation. The latter is for Cuarón an hypotext to modernize for the contemporary and Hollywoodian audience. It is clear since the first scene and it is confirmed by the use of colours, music, editing and recitation.
