Snapchat as a New Instrument for Anti-Oedipal Expression in the 21st Century

  • Francesca Pangallo Ca' Foscari University of Venice

Abstract

This paper focuses on the new expression dynamics the unconscious accesses through the instant messaging app called Snapchat. In Anti-Oedipus, Deleuze and Guattari point out how the individual can no longer be defined through psychoanalysis, as Freud did with the Oedipus complex. From the understanding of its opposite attitude – the anti-Oedipus – the unconscious is a new type of machine acting inside a society made by screens. Having been released from the standard time-line history concept, the unconscious is now free to extend itself with different forms of social interactions.
