Espèces d’espaces. The Articulation of Autobiographical Space in Zeina Abirached’s Graphic Novels

Keywords: Abirached, Comics, Autobiography, Third space, Immigration,

Abstract

The albums of Zeina Abirached, a francophone Lebanese comic strip artist, constitute a real autobiographical space, whose structure is  strictly connected with the portrayal of inhabited spaces, as shown by the titles of her works full of topographical references. Through the analysis of the represented space and of the space of representation, we will analyse the nature of these spaces and follow the evolution of the narrator-protagonist from the domestic and city spaces towards a third space, the ideal one that cancels all differences.
