The manuscript De las costumbres antiguas de los naturales del Pirú: A new focus on its history and authorship
Abstract
A new track about the anonymous ms. De las Costumbres antiguas de los naturales del Pirú (1594/95-1600) is proposed according to the ms. De Tahuantinsuyu prischis gentibus mentioned by Blas Valera’s Exsul Immeritus (Alcalá de Henares 1618) as a work he handled to F. Acosta in 1586. Many data suggest this source being translated into Spanish and updated by an Italian Jesuit: for untangling the matter the ms. De las Costumbres is here compared with Blas Valera’s Exsul Immeritus, as well as with other sources related to De las Costumbres and the matter of establishing some kind of Inca “Reduccion” in the Virreinato del Perú.Anuac is published under a Creative Commons Attribution Licence 4.0.
