Abstract
Abstract: In 1912 Edoardo Benetti reported with a long paper the discovery of important objects from the Nuragic period in Tergu. An enigmatic letter from the Maresciallo of the Carabinieri of Castelsardo created chaos among the scholars. In the meantime the finds were in possession of Stefano Vallero Usai, who never sent them to Antonio Taramelli, as requested by him. The most important object, the doppiere of Tergu, was published in 1914, but with vague references to the context of discovery due to the controversy that had arisen. While the topographical and archaeological references of the discovery were completely lost, the find became part of the Vallero collection in Sassari. Thanks to the documents kept in the Archive of the Soprintendenza of Cagliari it is possible to recover the data and reconstruct the history of this lost treasure.
