Abstract

The landscape of contemporary TV series is highly diversified: the increase of competition and fragmentation, the impact of alternative distribution services, such as Netflix, lead consumption modes and creative processes to new, unpredictable directions. In such a competitive scenario, creative issues intertwine with commercial ones, while scolars, critics and experts raise questions about the future architectures of serial narratives, which seem impossible to predict. However, it is possible to identify trends and motifs that sometimes confirm huge changes to come, and sometimes strongly contradict them.
